Thrilled to have acquired a most lovely early French pelmet from the Basque region of France.
A most stunning example of an early quilted/scalloped pelmet/bed hanging textile that dates to the latter 18thc to no later than about 1830.
The indigo cloth was seen used generally about 1810 or so.
A magnificent early tight nubby fine woven linen to the back side which is a warm wheatish soft brown/tan type tone. The front side is a combination of a stunning hand blocked Indienne type floral toile done in a warm ochre/mustard gold with a madder purple and an early indigo stripe cotton. It is trimmed in a yellow gold which I believe may be linen or a silk/linen as it has a soft sheen.
Simply fabulous example of it's period, all hand sewn and hand quilted. Ideally,
I would love to keep this textile whole however after much thought, I am opting to sell it in lengths as I want those of you with smaller projects in mind to be able to utilize it also.
Even as a smaller element it makes a tremendous statement.
Finding treasures of this nature are rare so I feel both thrilled and privileged to have stumbled upon such an amazing textile.
A most wonderful early & historical example of both French cottons and linens of it's period as well as the progression of earlier French textiles.

Condition is very strong and stable especially given its age. It is as found and unwashed. I will leave that to the buyers preference.
There will be a bit of surface dust/pale soiling primarily to the wheat linen side from years of storage though the color itself overall hides it well. A more overall slightly aged patina which is lovely on this. The floral and indigo stripe appear strong and pretty amazing overall given their age, slightly aged but very nice. The yellow trim is intact but does have some mild wear in areas, not bad at all, very mild. It has the majority of it's small hanging hooks, a few random ones are missing. Overall, for it's age it is in truly lovely condition. Part of me thinks either lightly used or simply made and stored away.

My last piece.
Many thanks!!

I sell antique and vintage fabric. Each textile is different; some possibly used, some unused. I will give you my best assessment. I do not always launder them nor do I know all their history, how they have been stored over time etc.. I have a 30+ year long & extensive knowledge of textiles and gauge age ranges; fiber content etc.. to the best of my ability. As always please view all photos, dimensions etc.. as they are part of the description. Please keep in mind that I provide the best photos possible but monitors do vary. If my eyes should miss a small flaw, please know it is not intentional. I am always available and happy to answer any inquiries so always please ask if I have not addressed something that may be important to you.I
