Gorgeous old leather bible in remarkable condition. 4" thick by 10"×12" and about 10 lbs. The covers are tooled in deep relief with intricate gilding. Although I can never guarantee the longevity of books this old due to differing handling habits and the quality of the adhesives and stitching used, the hinges and binding are tight and structural integrity is currently solid.

The textblock and pages are clean and crisp with no markings, stains, tears, smells, open gutters, dog eared page corners or other typical signs of mishandling, abuse and neglect. Even the color "Presented to" page is blank and as such would make an excellent gift for any devout Christian family.

The gilt is overall still bright. Profusely illustrated with black and white engravings and color lithographs.

The primary evidence of moderate wear lies in the lower terminus of the spine, some rubbing of the leather dye on the edges and the deep blue end papers that appear to be sik moire.

I have not been able to pinpoint its date. It looks to be 1880s to my eye and there is an "1865" on the title page. But there is a 19 on the "Presented to" page almost implying that the giftee would be writing in the rest of a 1900s year. But it does not look like 20th century construction. A minor detail that Im still trying to solve at the time of posting.
